I found a wild chick when she was about 4 or 5 weeks old. She is now 8 or 9 weeks old and we decided that since she is a girl we are going to keep her and start having chickens for eggs. She is alone and so we are getting new chicks to go along with her and are in the process of building a coop and yard. We won't get our chicks for another two weeks (or possibly this week but doubtful) how old do you suggest I let the new chicks to get before I introduce them or how would you suggest introducing them? I've never had domestic chickens before. Right now we allow the wild chicken in the house and she just follows me around and lays on the floor when I am sitting on the couch. i am not sure how to introduce them

I would try to get some chicks as close in age as possible but if your new chicks are younger then you can just raise them separately for several weeks ..

I am taking it you are in the Hawaiian islands so you should have no problems with keeping them chicks warm and just perfect weather for chickens ..

Since you already have her in the house, why not keep her as a house chicken? Then your new additions can have the coop/ run to themselves and not have to be integrated with her.

Many people do have chickens inside. Check out the "people with house chickens," thread - my friend has 2 serama hens and a silkie hen as house pets.

The chicken we have we found and decided a week ago that we are going to keep her and not raise her to release back to the overrun wild chicken population here. She is only indoors because I am home a lot of the time (I am a college student living with my boyfriend and his mom so she is the one that decided to keep her and get other chickens for eggs). We never planned to keep them indoors we just have nowhere else to put her at the moment and I don't want to leave her in her dog carrier all day alone. We are getting two chicks that were born last week on Tuesday but since our first chick is around 6 or 7 weeks old I don't know if it is a good idea to introduce them or not. They won't be in the same cage until we build the coop (we are in the process and started this weekend). So I am keeping all three chickens in the house until we can move them to the coop. Should I introduce them while I am inside so they can get acquainted? We don't want them in the house after we build the coop and they will have a large back yard to run around in.

Could I put my chicks when they are 8 weeks old in the coop? They work fine with my older hen they are only two and a half weeks old and the older hen hardly pecks at all and mostly ignores the babies. I am home all the time so they are never alone. I would not put the babies in the coop now because they are too young to stay warm enough but, at 8 weeks would I be able to put them in the coop? We still don't have our coop built yet (hopefully we can get it built in the next week or two). I leave for a trip in the middle of June and the chicks will be around 9 weeks old when I leave on a trip and would like to get them in the coop as soon as possible because I will also be getting some more chicks the end of May beginning of June (my boyfriend will be taking care of them) but, I don't want him to have to take care of 6 chicks while I'm gone. It would be easier for him to take care of 4.
