I have a small male goat very sweet. Today my dog chased him down and tackled him- no blood- when I found them the goat was laying down breathing fast. I see no puncture wounds but now after 2 hours he will not get up. He is moving positions occasionally. He has his head up but he will not get up. I do not see any obvious bone breaks. Any thoughts as to what I should do?

He may very well still be in shock. I have seen goats and sheep that were uninjured die of shock after a dog attack. Or he may have suffered an internal injury you can't see. I would suggest you keep him warm. Cover him with some sort of blanket. Offer him some warm water maybe with molasses in it and see if he will drink it.The fact that he is changing positions is a good thing. I would call the vet. There are injections available that will treat shock.

Thank you, He is in a sunny spot, nice and warm. I put water by him, but I will try some molasses in it. There is no vet here but there are a few people that have goats. I am out of Boserum or I would give him a dose. I feel so bad.

Can you find anyone who has some dexamethasone on hand? It is helpful for shock. Is he making any effort to get up?
