Beware of hawks!

Thread Starter
I had six and my chicks in a enclosed covered temporary run and a hawk got in between the box and the fence which was just a small space and got one of my chicks. I was so sad that my husband went out and looked far and wide until he found two baby chicks to replace the one. We're in the process of finishing up the chicken coop and we'll put half inch welded wire up around and on top of it. My chicks will be happy to be in the sun once more.

Welcome to BYC! I'm glad you joined us! :)

I set fire to the rain! Watch it pour as I, touched your face. Well it burn while I cried, because I heard it screaming out your name. And I threw us into flames. I knew that was the last time, the last time...I set fire to the rain! -Adele

Hi and welcome to BYC - glad that you have joined us. Sadly, experience can be a very unforgiving teacher, but I'm sure you Fort Knox approach will ensure that your flock remains safe.

The Learning Centre is a great resource, even for experienced poultry keepers - loads of info on anything poultry. http://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center

Sorry to hear you had a hawk visit so soon Vivian.

A cruel lesson learned a hard way, but the coop and run

need to be bullet proof. Just the smallest hole, and trouble

will get in.

So built well, my new friend.

Spook
