Crossing silkies with other breeds?

This is a Silkie X Buff Orpington cross. Sire is a white, hatchery stock Silkie. Mother is a BO hen. She has five toes, olive shanks, crested, with feathered legs. My wife's favorite bird.

Such a cutie!

Ok thank you so by looking at the pic of my little chick do you think Cochin or Silkie?
I think cochin. My silkie mix chicks looked different than yours. But none of mine were off seabright hens :)
I have some 1st generation silkie mixes which have clean legs and 4 toes and no crest, but I also have 1st generation silkie mixes who have 5 toes and crests. It's a crap shoot, but one thing they do seem to have in common is dark skin on their feet and large eyes. Some have straight combs, some have silkie combs.

combs, 5 toes, beards, muffs etc are all a 50/50 gamble. But as your chick looks to have a straight comb and only 4 toes and mottled foot color it puts the odds at the cochin being the dad.
IF the chick has ear muffs and a beard (I can't tell from the photo) and your silkie has ear muffs and beard, then this chick would be his offspring as neither cochin or seabright should have those.

Can a serama rooster breed silkies? Maybe a silly question, I just can't tell if he's having any success?? Lol
My first time to intentionally breed anything, so please be kind.

Where there is a will, there is a way. Plus I've seen silkie seramas so it must be possible :) As long as the rooster is smaller than the hens I see no reason they can not. A young d'uccle mix of mine topped a standard sultan hen, he hung from her tail feathers but he was so quick about it I don't think she knew what hit her.
