We have a dog with one ear that's been infected or something for 2 years ongoing. We've done the cleaning, mineral oil, and drops. Short of having his ear canal removed I don't know what to do! I'm posting some pictures to show the bad ear vs the good ear. The ear that's bad always sounds squishy, the ear canal touches on both sides and gets raw and the other dogs are always locking it which makes it worse. It's hard to dry out as a result of the swelling but I don't know what's safe.any suggestions would be most appreciated for myself and my otherwise happy dog.

I have had dogs with chronic ear problems - cultures, antibiotics, acidic washes, drying agents ----------------- for my dogs the only thing that really seemed to help was changing to a grain free diet. Apparently in many instances these ear problems are related to food allergies - specifically grain. Good luck in resolving this situation. I know how frustrating it can be.

Thats the crappy ear, its all swollen shut and re. We have him and all of them on grian free duck based food at the moment.

Ya that's the thing, we switched from cheap food to better food that's grain free and his ear got better. Then 6 weeks later is started again and has been basically ongoing since. I just don't even know, it's definitely frustrating.

I am not necessarily suggesting you do this, but I cleared up a long time infection in a dog's ear once. I got a packet of terramycin powder from the feed store. I packed the ear with it every single day for several months. After it seemed to clear up I put a light dusting in the ear every day for a long time. It finally worked. If it is going to help you will see improvement in a very few days. The important thing is to keep doing it. Don't stop.

I guess the vet hasn't done a culture yet, I honestly didn't even think of asking for one, which is silly that it wasn't offered in the first place, probably costs less then the bottles of surolan.
