At what point can i remove the additiona heating source. If the feed store was accurate my chicks are about 5/6 weeks old. They stay under or around the heating lamp but not all the time.
I live in chicago, and it weather is up and down. At what point can i put them in their coop without concsrns of it being to cold??? I have read the research but it say different things

As long as they have all or most of their feathers you can remove the heat from the brooder. However I would leave it on during the night and remove it during the day as long as it is nice out to just get them used to not having the light on all the time. In about a week or two they should be able to go to the coop.

Thats good news. It still kind of cold here in chicago so we still have thwm inside. We try and take them out on the warmer days. But keep lamp on through out day, I will start removing heating lamp a couple of hours each day they will be about 6 weeks next week... i just read so many different things i wasnt sure i was also told they needed additional heat up til 9 weeks or so.
