Well, I finally have my ducklings!

I bought Pekin Ducklings as day olds on the 17th of March. Let me just say, it has been quite an experience. I have learned a lot along the way. They are messy, they are cute, they are cuddly, and they grow FAST!! This is Pekin and Duckie. I'm not sure of gender, but I suspect I have a boy (lighter beak) and a girl (darker beak). They are definitely bonded too. They stick very close to each other when I have them out to stretch their legs and play or for a quick swim. They will be a month old tomorrow! I am in the process of building a duck hut for them. I finished the framework for it finally. Tomorrow I am hoping to be able to start the wall/roof work, and then I can build the enclosure and add in the items they will need. I have more pics on my phone from today, but didn't upload them yet. The pictures really don't even seem to show just how big they are now too!! Also, please note that the laundry basket is only when I am cleaning their brooder out. It's not their brooder.

Word of warning Birdy, they are messy, especially with water. You will want to try to figure out a trick to keep them from making a HUGE mess in their brooder. I decided on using washable bedding for them because it's easier to manage (IMO). I change it as needed, but that's usually a MINIMUM of twice a day. I use old shirts (I tuck the sleeves, collar, and bottom hemming under so they don't access it) and sheets. I tried to put a tiny tupperware with water initially but they tried to swim in it so I nixed that quickly and moved to a water bottle. Then they were making a mess with the water so I put the watering bottle into a square dish which worked wonders. Once they got older I moved to a round metal bowl with the watering bottle inside, and now they have a larger metal bowl with the watering inside (they were tipping over the other when water level would get too low).

I guess other people use an empty milk/water jug with a hole cut in it, but I didn't do that since I already had the water bottle for them (I used it with my chicks, but I sterilized anything I used for these guys).
