Not Sure If You've Got A Pullet Or Cockerel? Click Here! Thread 2

Hello all my wonderful chicken experts! I have some 5 week old birds that I was wondering if you could tell me your thoughts.

Here Osti who is my NN/EE: it hatched out of green/blue egg and has light brown feathering on it's bow tie and some black splash spots on it's back. Otherwise it is showing as white.

Also, I have a few silkies and silkie mixes. From my research they have a tendency to not be able to be sexed until they are older. If they haven't crowed by what age should I wonder about pullet or cockerel?

I was thinking the blue on the neck made it a rooster
No, sadly the blue does not mean it's male. If only it were that easy! Silkies are one of the hardest breeds to sex. I was looking for possible red coming in on the wings which can indicate a male. It looks small, so probably too young yet. Male combs will get larger faster, but if you don't have anything to compare, it is difficult. Males tend to have a spikier looking crest, females will be more rounded, but yours looks like it is growing in some new feather there. Without knowing the age, it is really hard to tell. I think you are just going to have to wait and see.
