Is it necessary to separate my rooster after removing his spurs?

I have watched enough videos and read enough here to know how to do it. I don't really have a place to keep him separated from the girls, though.  If I apply redKote or something of that nature to the fresh spur, do you all think he'll be ok back in with the girls?

this is a GREAT rooster, he's about 4 yrs old, and about a year ago some hens (that are gone now, but so is the coon that got them) pecked him almost to death.  He lost most of his feathers and I swear I thought he was going to die. I did keep him in a small ish dog kennel for a few weeks, medicated - and integrated him back in and he's back in his full glory. I don't want to go through THAT again.

Thanks all!

I have been thinking of trying this, and the last video mentioned keeping him apart for a couple of days.
