Tuesday evening we started incubating a batch of 22 shipped eggs. Last night my DH and I realized that we haven't seen the egg turner move. After reviewing the forum for similar issues we decided to set the alarm and check it again in 2 hrs (at 12:40am). I just checked and the eggs have not moved a single mm! I'm trying not to freak out but I'm scared that we may have killed the eggs!

The automatic egg turner in our Hovabator 1588 is NOT turning the eggs at all and this is a confirmed fact!

Has anyone had this problem before? If so what did you do to fix it??

Is it possible to save our eggs this late in the game?

Some facts about this hatch:
This is our first time incubating eggs besides when I did it as a teen.
We had the incubator up and running and settled for an entire week before putting eggs in.
We have had the temp at 99.5 and fluxing from 99.3-100.3
We have the humidifier with the Humidity level ranging from about 45-52
I received the shipped eggs last Saturday and let them sit from Saturday till Tuesday evening in hopes that they would settle.
Upon candleing, we had one egg with a detached air cell (which we disposed of), about 17 eggs with basically unharmed air cells, and the rest with distorted air cells.
Upon realizing that the turner isn't working, I just hand turned the eggs myself.

Any advice you can offer would be greatly appreciated! It may sound crazy, but our whole family feels like these precious eggs are our chicken children. Hopefully this isn't all lost yet!

If you set Tuesday, you are just going into day 4 and while it's not ideal, many hatchers set their shipped eggs but don't turn for 2-3 days to give the air cells time to adjust. (Of course, most don't wait 3 days to set them, so you have added age of egg too.) As long as you are now hand turning them I would say all is not lost.

Usually I caution against humidity over 45% overall for the first 17 days, but considering the amount of time they set and with collection and shipment time, you might actually need a higher humdiity, so I would say, monitor the air cells to make sure they are growing properly.

I have had this issue with my none-shipped eggs (my girls laid them). I had to manually turn it 4 times a day, 6:00 am, 11:00, 5:00pm and 10:00pm. It was the best I could do, having planned to have an automatic turner. They should be ok, to be sure you should candle them.

I turn 3x's on average and 5 if I can get the extra couple in. I actually prefer hand turning. I started with a turner for the first 2 hatches and then switched to hand turning and been doing that since. I don't see myself going back to using an auto turner.

Hi I don't think my response posted :(
My girls fertile eggs failed to be turned for 24 hours because my incubator didn't turn like it said, but after a few days candle them to see if they're alive <3

I do prefer hand turning too :) makes me feel more like- well, it gives me that feeling of I did all this by myself when they hatch! ;)

That's one way to look at it. It feeds my neccessity to fuss is one reason I like it...lol But the reason I switched was the added heat from the motor making one corner way too hot. I was having very good hatches prior to hand turning, but they increased even more after switching. I even had my first 100% hatch rate.

I understand some people have busier lives than I and rely on the turners, but I say if you can hand turn 3 xs a day at least and it doesn't bother you to do it, I'd hand turn. It's more natural for the eggs too than the verticle turners.

The 1588 is a forced air so the likelihood of hot spots is a lot less, but it’s still possible. Personally I like an automatic turner, I like not being tied to the incubator at certain times every day so I can go see a play or visit friends. But each of us is unique. We all have our preferences.

Here are the turner instructions. Make sure the trays are lined up right and that the slot in the bar that fits over the knob on the turner is not in a bind. I’ve had that bind issue before. Aggravating!

There are different reasons the eggs should be turned, especially early in the incubation. Not turning them “can” cause problems. But there are a lot of things that “can” happen that never do. Odds are you will be fine.
