Please help me sex my 7-week old Ameraucanas. I have them labeled #1 and #2. (I'm actually hoping for a rooster because I have 2 beautiful full grown black ameraucana hens already. I have a rooster, but he hasn't fertilized one egg since Feb. 5th, when I got him. Still patiently waiting for him to do his job, but am getting less and less hopeful.) I'm thinking these are both hens, which would be wonderful too, but I need a working rooster. LOL

#2

I'm sorry they are dirty. I need to get them outside now that it is warming up.

I can't help you, other than to advise you to find out somehow if he's sexually mature :( I just wanted to say how beautiful he is :)

Thank you, do you mean these two chickens that I am trying to sex? The rooster and pullets trio are really beautiful (not pictured here.) That is why I want to breed them so badly, but he hasn't fertilized an egg since I got him on Feb. 5th. I have set every single egg they laid, and they are all clear.

You have 'set'? Do you mean incubate? Or candle? Or something else?

I feel your pain. I have the same issue with my Black Ameraucana quad. I do get a fertile egg every once in a while, so don't give up yet. How old is he? Your chicks both look like pullets to me.

Really, you are having the same issue? Hmm, that is interesting. I did just trim around all of their vents last weekend, and am hoping that will help. He is too beautiful to not be producing chicks. I am not sure on his age. I was told 1 1/2, and he looks about that age, but it is hard to tell for sure. I did get him from a very good breeder.

No signs of them being roosters :(, you could check again maybe in a week or two to see if they are just slow to mature

Thank you for looking! I'm happy with pullets too, but then I need to find a rooster, or get mine working. :)

Yes, I set every single egg in the incubator, that I have gotten from my trio since Feb. 5th, and they lay almost every day, but they are all infertile.

Hmm... I'm not sure. If you really want fertile eggs you can order them but if you want them to be yours because you like the breeds, you should try to trigger mating some how
