Top Beak Broken

My BLRW roosters top beak got broke some how will it grow back?

Yes, beaks continue to grow all through out the life of the bird, as do the claws.

If the break is really severe, you may need to stop the bleeding with some sort of blood stop or you can use corn starch. I keep a box of corn starch up in the coop at all times. Works wonders on stopping bleeding...just pack the bleed with the starch and the blood will stop flowing. You will then need to hide the raw skin with some blu-kote dabbed on the upper beak as the others will peck at this horribly. This area will be sore for a while and it may be painful for the bird to pick food up. What I do is I put the feed in a small bowl, dog food bowl or one of those small black rubber tubs and I dampen the feed for a week or so, so the bird can pick up its food.

Depending on how far back the break is, if it is about half way, it will take about 3 months to fully grow back so that it just overlaps the lower mandible. If only the tip is broken off, it will regrow within the week. If this is the case, I would take a paper nail file and file the end round. If it is left chipped and straight at the tip, it can crack and split up the middle. So just round it off a bit.

Keep an eye on the bird to make sure they are eating ok today and eventually the beak will grow back.

Thanks for the info it isn't broken except on the end so I guess the nail file thing will work. I was feeding him meal worms and noticed he kept dropping them is when I saw it.
I also have a month old chick that has a scissors beak. Is there any thing that can be done about it?

Chicks chip the tips of their beaks off easily. Adults can too, but it isn't as common. I had a 2 year old BR that recently chipped the tip of her beak off. Usually something is amiss in the diet when it happens with an adult.

Scissor beaks are MUCH more complicated. You can't file or trim their's down much. There is a blood vein in a beak and you have to be careful. Usually with a scissor beak, there is something going on genetically elsewhere in the bird...some other health problem that is causing the beak to grow improperly.
