Bumble foot palooza! HELP!

Hey everyone! I need some advice. We've got 20 chickens, 6 adults and the rest youngins... Well, I recently noticed a lame hen hobbling around the farm, upon inspection I noticed she has the dreaded bumble foot!! Surgery was performed last night and she is already improving. Swelling has reduced to a minimum and she happily eating and drinking again.. Unfortunately I've now noticed that EVERY single adult chicken of ours has the black scab and or swelling on their feet/toes. Thankfully no one else is lame but WHAT is causing this?! They're free range during the day and cooped at night. My only thought was possibly all of the rain?? Maybe they're spending too much time in the mud? Any advice on putting an end to this would be wonderful! Thank you in advance!
 
my hypothesis is:
the bird that develops a severe inflamation from the staph infection does so because there is another weakness, whether it is because of an injury that you may or may not have witnessed or a genetic weakness;

congratulations are in order if you indeed succeeded in curing your patient in one surgery;

i am curious: what instruments did you use / were available to you to perform the surgery and where did you obtained them?

I already had a ton of gauze and a henostat and cleaning solutions/antibiotics at home from supplies I've accumulated at work. I also purchased a surgical blade and blade holder from Tractor Supply as well as some vet wrap.

We were able to extract a LARGE core from the padding of the foot and then proceeded to cut the top where the swelling was and removed another much smaller core. I unwrapped and soaked the foot in epsom salt again yesterday and reapplied antibiotic and rewrapped the foot, I'm curious to see how it looks in a day or two.

Why all of the sudden are they all contracting it? Or have they maybe had this issue and I haven't noticed, due to no one showing signs? Is there an overall medication I can give to the entire flock to help the issue??
 
UPDATE: All except 2 of the chickens are fine now... I picked the core on them all and packed it with an antibiotic powder for a day or two and they all healed up nicely...

However, the one who was REALLY bad is getting worse. We performed the surgery on her 3 times now. The bottom of the foot has healed, but the entire foot is swollen and so painful she won't even walk anymore. The swelling is going up her leg. I am so desperate, I do not know what else to do for her! I think tomorrow I will attempt the surgery on the top of her foot AGAIN, then flush with an antibiotic solution and pack with antibiotic powder and wrap it up for two days.. Last time I did this it looked a lot less swollen, but went right back to how it was within a couple of days.. I'm at a complete loss here! Any ideas would be much appreciated.
