Two of my hens are broody(they will hatch in a week) but they are in the main hen house. I am afraid that when the chicks hatch, they will exit the chicken house and the dogs or cats will get them. My dogs used to eat my full grown chickens, but thankfully we trained them not to. I don't know how they will react to baby chicks though..... What should I do?

Welcome to BYC
The simplest, and only guaranteed effective, solution is to confine the birds or confine the dogs.

Hi and welcome to BYC - you have some great advice already so I'll just say hello!

All the best

Just be sure to keep them apart. If you won't keep your dogs locked up, then you have to keep your chicks in a safe coop and safer outdoor run, that your dogs can not dig under, climb over or squeeze their paws or mouth between the wires. You know your dog kills chickens. I would advise putting up electric fencing around coop and run, to teach them going near chickens is NOT a good idea.

A good momma hen will do the best she can to teach
your dog not to eat her babies.

But still , the best advice is to not put the chicks where
the dogs can get to them. Best wait a while on that.

Spook
