Hello all,

I am a newbie to the forum and a new chicken owner. We decided to go big or go home and bought 35 Caramel Queens (Light Sussex x Welsummer) chicks who are currently 12 days old and living in my kids play room in our makeshift brooder (read kiddie pool). We live on 3.5 acres in BC, Canada. My husband is still finishing the coop. He worked on it all day yesterday. Should have it mostly completed next weekend. (See attached photos of coop and chicks) my hubby grew up on a dairy farm where they had a handful of chickens to supply their family with eggs. (The sound like white leghorns by what he describes but who knows). I have done some research on BYC for the last few months but still have tons to learn. I grew up in the city and have never owned chickens but I grew up owning horses (and still have 2 of my own at our house) so I have farm sat many times which included daily chicken duties. I have a loving hubby who I've mentioned above and 3 sons 5 years, 3 years, and 19 months old. I am a part time RN, part time hobby farmer, and full time mom and wife! We also own a friendly labx and 2 indoor kitties who are all unsure of our 35 cute new house guests!

Thanks for having me and I look forward to learning so much more about chickens!
