So for the past month and a half I've had some feral ducks that have been coming into my flock. They free range in the field across the street and the ferals have figured out that there are girls and food there. They hang out with my flock during the day and then leave at night. Of course I've had to worry about them bringing disease into my flock so I treated their water and food with various anti parasite meds to treat Coccidiosis, Giardia, and worms. Since the ferals all eat and drink the same I figure they just got treated whether they wanted to or not.

Now there's one duck that I REALLY like. I think he's a mallard mixed with maybe a swedish. But he's really beautiful and I'd like to add him to my flock. They come up to me and they stay all day but at night they all fly away somewhere. If I trap him and clip his wings do you think he would get into routine with my flock and stay with them? Or would he always be trying to fly away?

I don't want to clip his wings and put him in danger of predators. I was thinking about locking him in the duck run for a few weeks until he gets used to being there and then letting him graze with part of the flock in my yard for a bit and then once he's used to that integrating him back into the whole flock over in the grazing field. But I don't want to stress him out.

Thoughts?

here's a pic of him

I would advise against this. Unless you're a licensed re-habber I don't think this would be legal. I don't really know, that's my assumption though.

Maybe someone else will have more insight.

Why would I need to be a rehabber? They aren't wild ducks, they are domestic/mallard crosses which makes them a feral duck.
