What breeds of ducks would you recommend getting for meat? I ordered golden 300, WH, Khaki cambells, blue Swedish all for egg laying (no drakes) and I have one drake mallard coming. Do you think if the drake bred any of them we could butcher?

I prefer Pekins. They grow faster, and do not fly.

And, yes, you will be able to eat the offspring from your ducks, but they will be much slower growing, and smaller than a meat breed.....especially with a mallard drake.

Muscovy drakes are huge and very tasty. They are my favorite meat ducks. The hens are very prolific and great mothers so they are a very easy breed to raise. They are so much quieter than Pekins too.

I'll throw out Saxonies because they are a great dual purpose breed but are listed as critical by the livestock conservancy and need folks keeping them!

Other posters are right on with those breed suggestions though.
