I have 8 black australorp's they are only about a week and a half and from day 3 when i got them 4 have predominantly longer wings and the other 4 have much shorter wings and now only the long winged are sprouting tail feathers. Im a seasoned chicken owner but these are my first time with BA's. Is this a comon sign of gender? I bought strait run so its anyones guess, i know but the feathering was odd to me.

I can't remember totally, but I believe they are one breed where the hens feather faster than the roosters.

I just have one Australorp but it has feathered MUCH more slowly than my RIR and Buff Orpington chicks of the same age...seems to be a possible sign of a roo from what I've read.
