So I jumped right in there and posted to some threads already but I wanted to properly introduce myself. I grew up with chickens, but when I decided to get myself a backyard flock I realized keeping chickens in town is a little different than keeping them on a farm. Some of these coops are wayyyyy over the top! But once I started planning my own coop, I realized I too was building a chicken palace. Right now I have four young pullets living in my spare bathroom, and I'm trying to figure out if I need a "chunnel" or if they'll be okay foraging in my enclosed backyard with clipped wings. I'm also looking into making my own organic layer feed and sprouting some grains for them. On a side note, I have to tell you all that about a year ago I quit my job to be a stay at home mom to my two children. It was the first time we were able to afford a one-salary household, and I was not sure how well I would cope with being a non-breadwinner. In that time I have started making all our own bread, home made dog food, soap, compulsive recycling, and now chickens. I love all my "hobbies" but I think I might need to get out of the house more often! Anyway I love this site and hope to meet some friendly like-minded people here.
