I am new to chicken keeping and recently purchased a few chicks to start my backyard flock. My bantam chick has an eye issue that I don't know what to do about. The eye seems swollen but more unusual is that the eyelid appears to have grown outward. The chick can close its eye completely so I am not concerned about the eye drying out and it seems to be eating / sleeping / drinking normally. Is this worth going to the vet? Is there an over the counter solution that will help the eye inflammation? Thank you.

Welcome to BYC. I Am not sure there is much the vet can do, but I would use either Vetericyn EyeGel or Terramycin EyeOintment, both available from the feed stores by asking a clerk since they are locked up. If there is dried crust in the eyes, you can do some warm soaks with a wet washcloth or use some saline. Apply the gel or ointment twice a day.
