I have two four week old silkie chicks. If the outside temp is in the 80's, can they safely be outside without a heat lamp? Are they old enough to not have a heat lamp inside my garage where their brooder is?

I'd say they're diffidently old enough to be outside, just got to make sure it's warm enough. I'd keep the heat lamp in the garage still. Just a little longer!

At 4 weeks they should be used to 70-80 degrees if you have stepped down the heat and raised your lamp. I wouldn't use it anymore during the day. At night it depends on what they are used to and what temperature it is in the brooder. I will usually run the light for another week or two at night unless it's warmer than the temperature they should be at.
