Hello all. So we received this young man recently, and it is a guess that he is around 4 months old? In regards to him living up to the task of a "good" rooster, well, he is certainly giving it the old college try.

We were told he is likely a cross between a Barred Rock and a Rhode Island Red, but being a newbie to the breeds and looking to learn more regarding their temperaments, I would love others input. Thank you!

...not sure but I think he is giving attitude in this picture.
 
That would be a black sex link male and, yes, that could be the result of a RIR cock over a barred rock hen -- that particular crossing is a very common one used to get black sex links.

Quite likely something Red mixed with the barred. He'll probably get more red/gold color in the hackles and saddle feathers as he matures.
