New member from Big Sky country preparing to Jail some Quail!

Thread Starter

My brother and I were preparing to raise about 6 or 8 chickens in our large "suburban" yard when I stumbled on a discussion on raising quail so we're now discussing that as well-we have a few weeks to figure it out-so has anybody else around the Flathead region raised quail in the back yard? I am thinking about 40-60 in season and trimming back to around 12-16 for winter? We sold the farm and moved Mom to town so my younger brother just remembers the three 22-hours-a-day/7days week roosters so I tried convincing him we can have hens only and eliminate that problem. This is where I recalled the idea of quiet quail! We always raised three or four coveys of bandits and thieves on the farm in Colorado when I was a kid and my memories of the cooing and bobWHITE every evening seem appealing. So, thanks for being here and I look forward to a great friendship!

Hi and welcome to BYC -  glad that you have joined us.

The "quail" forum is the best place to begin with, I would suggest.

You'll find lots of info in the Learning Centre (even if you have lots of experience)

http://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center, and if you have a specific topic in mind, just type it in the search box - there's a wealth of information on past and present threads.

You may wish to consider joining your state thread  as it will put you in touch with other BYC members in your area - just type the name of your state in the search box.

I set fire to the rain! Watch it pour as I, touched your face. Well it burn while I cried, because I heard it screaming out your name. And I threw us into flames. I knew that was the last time, the last time...I set fire to the rain! -Adele
