Brinsea 20 Advanced longevity & reliability

I am hoping long-time owners of the Brinsea 20 advanced can give me their feedback.
We are considering purchasing it but are concerned whether we'll get enough use out of it to justify the cost before it goes "kerplooey" since it would only be used a few times per year.

Is there anyone who has been using theirs 5+ years that is still pleased with it? How frequently has it been used? Anyone with one of any age that has used it like a workhorse?
 
I've had mine 3 years and it's still going strong. It gets used often and already this year it did 5 weeks straight running and never missed a beat. I shall be putting it back on again in the next week for another batch. I really don't have anything bad to say about it, it's been a fab incubator and well worth the extra money. I have the humidity pump and turning cradle with mine so it's literally set and forget and stress free.
 
That is good to hear! I've read a lot about how generally happy people are with the Brinseas, but I haven't come across posts noting when they start having mechanical issues

As active as the Brinsea threads are, I am surprised you are the only one to post. I'm guessing most have only had their machines a few years perhaps?
 
Have you posted on the Brinsea threads? I'm sure more would respond by doing this, some members like to stick to the same threads unlike me who is a nosey Parker and snoops everywhere :oops:

I've just put mine back on today and it's been running for 5 hours so far and is up to temp. In fact it got to temp in about 20 minutes. Setting eggs tomorrow :D
 
Thanks for the thought. I debated doing that.

Some months I never stray from my regular threads and at other times I'm checking out all the new postings on the forum page. There are so many threads past and present it can be a little overwhelming!

After poking around the Brinsea thread, I felt confident enough to just go ahead and buy it. It should be here in 2 days :D.
Hopefully will have my eggs in a week. What eggs did you set?

I had some eggs shipped for the Easter hatch a long and they had poor fertility. Out of 24 eggs only 7 were fertile :/ I called the breeder and she had poor fertility with hers too so she sent me 18 replacement ones yesterday. I have 6 bantam black Orpington, 4 Pekin and 8 Columbian black tails sitting on the side resting, will be setting them at lunchtime today.

Nice variety! At least it worked out in the end.
I will be picking up some Crested Cream Legbar eggs next week. They are still somewhat uncommon here. Works out well that I can sex them at hatch since we're in suburbia. I don't have anyplace to keep 20 half grown chicks trying to sort the boys from the girls. :D
 
That's very true, the Columbian black tails are a sexable chick at hatch. You will have to let me know how you get on with the cream legbar. The breeder I got my eggs from also sells them. Might give them a whirl later in the year :D
 
I currently have two that my broody hatched last year. I am still undecided. One is VERY flighty but a very good layer. Other is more personable but has just gone broody!!! A broody CLB??

But eggs are pretty and they are easier on the feed bill than my dual purpose so I am still debating them. The lines in the UK are probably better. Also would like to try the Rhodebar.

My faves are Sussex and Delawares. Once I get the hang of this incubator I am hoping to get some Coronation and Light Sussex eggs shipped. If I didn't live in the city I would be swimming in chickens!
