I ebayed some eggs and they are TINY!!! Barely bigger than my Mom's bantams. Is that common? one of them is possibly a medium egg size the the others are all small. Is this why I see them crossed?
I'm excited to see what we get!

What do you mean "see them crossed?"

If your certain they are large fowl eggs then they are pullet eggs. Some in their zeal to distribute eggs use young birds. There are two schools of thought which are almost evenly divided. Personally I'm in the school of don't use pullet eggs to hatch. The reasons for me are first, a small egg results in a small bird. Those in the other school feel the bird will catch up in size as the genetics for it are there. I don't believe they fully recover from the runt state. Sure they'll be large fowl and lay large eggs as hens but I don't believe they were given the fair chance at full potential growth. The other problem with use of pullet eggs is it can be too soon to fully evaluate the bird as a breeder. If pullets are used then is a cockerel used too? Cockerels won't show all their traits until full grown cock birds. Tails and adult weight are not realized until at least a year of age.

Depending on price is how I'd feel about receiving pullet eggs. If a very fair price then hey, the genetic material is there and I can work out the rest the next breeding season. If full priced I'd be upset. It all points to lack of quality in breeding yet charging premium. In my mind if I get pullet eggs then how much selective breeding is the person selling the eggs doing? It's more like they are putting any and all birds together to get the most eggs to sell. That's not breeding and doesn't warrant premium price. But that's my opinion and as stated there are two schools of thought on the topic of hatching pullet eggs.

Whoops- I thought I posted this under the Svart Hona breed thread. They are Svart Hona, I've seen several ads for eggs of these type birds crossed with other breeds-most of which are definitely bigger than these.
