Your work is SO beautiful! This is exactly what I wanted to do someday. But I doubt it'll look this good! And I just love the old wood you're using. Gives it a special touch that newer wood can't.
I have a question though. Once you draw the final sketch, how to do get it on the wood? Do you re-draw it, or what? I'm the kind of person who can't paint very well without drawing it first. I've tried doing that on wood, and it's not easy to draw on

Pm'd you, rare feathers.

Mary, I take my sketch and tape it onto the wood where I want the image to be. I then use an exacto knife to cut through the paper while following the lines of the image. When Im done, the sketch is a shredded mess but, I have transferred my basic image. I can then follow those cuts and carve them out deeper with the electric dremmel. The key is to keep it basic. Once the basic proportions are there, you can ad the detail later.. either with the dremmel or with paint. I have gotten so good with my dremmel, I freehand the detail with it.

The first 4 or so signs on this thread were all hand carved. They gave a total different feel... very folksy and some people like them better but, it was so hard on my wrists, I just couldn't keep doing them. The dremmel has allowed me to be more comfortable and keep the images cleaner and more precise.

Ok Gryeyes here's your sketches

The first one would be app. 9x13

The second one, "Chez Poulet" would be app. 15 x 15

and the 3rd one would be app. 12 x 20

I was also thinking you could go much simpler for the last one... if you wanted folks to be able to read it well and I can put the fence kind of under

Let me know what you do like about the sketches and maybe if you want to change anything. Pm me. For endless font options, go to urbanfonts.com and spend some time there searching for the perfect one.

You cannot tell but, the rhode island red is multi-dimensional with dark red lows and gold highlights.
