After moving a year ago and having to give up our flock, we finally decided to get a new flock.

The base is made a pea gravel and 3 4x4 (8 feet)

Built walls up first (ply wood for the floor and the sides

The framing for the roof was next (going for a slanted roof)

Stained/sealed everything to make it last little bit longer

We decided to put some (very) cheap vinyl tiles down to hopefully make the cleaning easier. Still trying to decide if I want to drill holes in the floor to help keep the house as dry as possible

First night out for the ducks (they were overgrowing their cage). used tarps and extra ply wood to keep them safe

The roof is now all set. Corrugated plastic, set on 2x4 and some hinges to allow access from the back

Put hardware cloth on the side windows

Need to setup the front door (opening into a ramp).
I am also planning on setting up pieces of plywood to close the side windows in case of very cold weather.

Hopefully this will be more functional than the first one we built :)

We have started constructing our duck house and so far so good. I do have a couple of questions about bedding material, we've been using softwood shavings in the brooder are these OK to use in their duck house too?

The floor is 16sq ft and this is for 6 ducks to start with and eventually 4 drakes. We bought straight run Pekins and I am pretty certain we have 4 drakes.
