Kentucky people

I don't have a light on them, the brooder cage is inside the main coop, it stays pretty warm in there at night right now.

In fact, I sometimes have to run a fan in there during the daytime, it gets so warm.

They were all checking the place out this morning, they seem pretty happy with the new digs - although I'm sure they'll love it when they get to "come out" into the main coop and run.

If ya want to see my setup check out my page - the main page is the coop I have them in, the new coop page is the one the big chickens are in right now. There's a pic onthe main page of the brooder cage we built in for babies who are too old for my sewing room, yet not old enough for the main flock.

Does anyone in the south central area have a game roo for sale? I have one game hen, and my dad has 4, We would really like a roo to go with them. Most of them in this area are fighters. I want one that is not. Really doesn't matter the color, but if anyone has a tri colored one that would be great!! We have one pullet that is mostly white, with brown and red 'spots' on her.

Shelly I got extra roos, I may have one - you want a bantie, right? Of old english game banties, I got an extra red pyle, LOL but ya got those, I believe. He is not strict red pyle coloring, he is a bit washed out - sort of a red wash roo, rather than a red pyle but he is pretty. I don't know what Cindy might have for extras on game roos, If she has one for ya, then I can pick it up when I see her monday. I am supposed to be getting a roo and two pullets from her monday.

I know a place that has roos - all of his banties free range, so none of them are strict coloring, but they are most all for sale. It is about 10 miles from me. I also have another neighbor who has banties, I been meaning to go to her place to see what she has. If you can't find one before then, I'll see if she has any young roos for sale.

If you want a large fowl game roo - I only got one, and he has to stay <g>. He was the first chicken I ever bought.

But I have a beautiful large fowl easter egger roo that might need a home. He looks like he has old english in him - his name is Attila (I think I told ya about him in PM) and he is at least tri colored - maybe more colors than that, LOL.

Attila was born mid march of 2008.

No not the bantam roos, just the regular game. The ones used for fighting, but I don't want a fighter. I told dad that I had seen some at the sale that some kids were packing around, and he said they were probably used for fighting, since they were so tame. I don't need any more deaths beause of stupid animals!! My yard already looks like a war zone, with all the feathers laying around from the molt. Every time I go to the barn, I say 'who died?' cuz there are so many feathers!! I think i need another dutch roo though, but I don't think you have any of those right? Well, I really don't need one (have way too many roos as it is!!), but just having the one blue splash, I am getting sick of seeing blue babies all the time...kinda takes the fun out when you know what they will look like before they hatch!!
I'll think about the EE roo though, I have one EE hen that is setting, and dad has one that is thinking about starting to lay. I will let you know. I would really like to get into pure breeds, but I don't think I can with all of them having the run of the place!! I think our EE hens are bantams though, they are just a bit bigger than my roo, who is only about 6 inches tall when he struts! Oh btw, I think I figured out that Bertha is a giant cochin. That makes sense, cuz she sure doesn't look like a bantam. Dad said he was thinkin about puttin her in with his others. He has SLW, RIR, and some that look like white leghorns, but have partly feathered legs. That would be a very interesting bunch if she hatched any! I don't think I would let him, though. She would just be heart broken if she were in a cage I'm sure!

Yeah, LOL out of 10 chicks I got this spring - I only got one easter egger hen out of the bunch. I got 5 easter egger roos, however.

I got two easter egger roos left Attila and Blue - Blue is white with a grey head. (he was blue when he was a baby - sort of a bluish grey all over).

Blue has never crowed yet - he is sort of the low end of the totem pole, but he is the smartest one of the bunch of them, LOL. He is a very good free ranger - I saw him eating a mouse the other day, I never know what he'll catch and eat.

Attila crows without any problem, LOL.

This is Blue, he has chin muffs, or whatever ya call them <g>. Not a great pic of him, he isn't as friendly with the camera as Attila is - Attila is flashy and he knows it. However, Blue WILL follow you around the barnyard waiting for treats

Although, you probably don't want Blue - seeing as how ya got enough bluish chicks already, LOL.

Let me know what ya decide.

I don't know anyone, other than the guy at the auction (you know, the one with all the cages inside the back of his truck - a lot of his chickens look poorly, but last fall his old english games looked pretty good when I got george.) , who has old english large fowl game roos. He always has a pen full of them - that is where I got George (my OEG Large Fowl roo).

btw - this is Chicken George -

Oh he is beautiful!! I think we need one that is either mostly white, or mostly black. My hen is kinda red, probably more brown.3 of dad's all look the same, kinda like the buff orps I believe. The other is the one I told you about. There was one on the what breed is this thread, I think, that looked just like dad's pullet, but with less white. Of course the owner lives in Ohio i think. If they were closer, I might have tried to talk them out of it!!

Oh quick question Meri...do you have the game roo penned up, or does he free range as well? I'm afraid if I get a game roo, and let it free range, then it would kill my dutch roo. I was told by the lady I got my blue splash pair off of that she was the only person in the area that had blue splash, and she has sold all of hers. Guess that gives me an edge, but not if my roo gets killed!!

He had always been penned up, but today was his first day free-ranging. He got into it a couple of times with Sammy's little roo - George didn't start it either time, Sammy's roo did, and Sammy's roo backed down first - no blood or torn feathers, even, it was more of a "I'm badder than you are" sort of thing.

George has always been the sweetest thing - he really takes care of the girls well, and he is pretty easy going, usually. Not aggressive to humans at all, and only aggressive to other roos if they start the fight. He seems more concerned with keeping his ladies safely in line than with looking for a fight. The times he has "put some chicken in their place" he has pecked once and backed off - he doesn't pursue until blood is drawn.

Only other fight he got into was with Attila when I had them both in the main coop - Attila can be kind of a dick - you probably don't want him, come to think of it, LOL.
I would be more worried about Attila attacking your dutch.

I don't know how other game roos are, but George has always been a really good little guy. Even for a large fowl, he is smaller than the usual chicken. Sort of between bantam size and large fowl size. I had some new hampshire red roos that towered over poor George. (Now THOSE were some nasty roos - they all got the foot to the neck, will never have another NH Roo on the farm again.)

I've heard Games can be aggressive - but any roo can be aggressive. I wouldn't hesitate to get another one to replace George if anything ever happened to him.

I had someone offer me reasonably big money for him (his spurs are 1 1/2 inches long - they need cutting, but I'm afraid to hurt him doing it) and they wanted to fight him.
I said he was a sweet roo, they said any roo can be taught to fight.
I told them to go... well, you can imagine, LOL.

Hey, Meri George is a Birchen OEG isn't he? That is what you are getting in OEGB's from me is Birchen...They are beautiful when the light hits them, they throw a purplish/greenish sheen....That's why I bought them, as purple is my fav color. Unfortunately my BTB Dutch "Little Man" is getting very picky in what males are allowed to join the flock and still hasn't allowed the Millie I got from Darrel(bluedog420) to range with them so he and his ladies are in Raoul's old pen...Would love to integrate them in with the rest though because Layne will be getting a pair of Chocolate or Khaki and a pair of Blue call ducks(maybe all 3 colors) on Wednesday to use for his 4-H projects/shows. The gentleman(I'm getting them from) and Turbo(BYCer) both say they are the easiest of the poultry group for kids to work with and tame. No pecks either. If I can't integrate the Male Millie then they'll be going to the librarian at Layne's school I guess.

Yeah, I remember when ya showed me the little male at my house, I said he looked like a Mini George <g>.

Wow! Sassy (the big white horse ya saw at my place) was just going NUTS whinnying and almost screeching, so I went to look and see why.

I accidently left that lower gate open  and the donkeys were all over by it looking to see if they could climb the stairs. Sassy was tattling,
lol.png

I figure if she could have climbed those stairs she wouldn't have tattled, but she is too crippled up to climb them, so she figured no one else was going to get out, either,

Sassy got three horse cookies. good girl

Anyway - I can't wait til tomorrow to get those little banties.

I'll call ya before we leave my house, since I don't have a cell phone to call ya enroute.
