Just got new hens

Great day all,

I juse brought home 6 beautiful girls yesterday and introduced them into their new coop. All of them seem to be adapting well, however, I have one Easter Egger that stayed in the coop all day yesterday, all night, and all day today. I've attempted to give her water, which she was receptive to. How long can I expect her to stay up there and what can I do to help her transition?
 
Is she in a spot with eggs? It is possible she went broody, which means she is on her
eggs until some chicks hatch. It also could be possible she's under a lot of stress,
and its best to just leave her alone until she gets used to things! Giving her water
and food is a good idea, just in case she doesn't feel good getting it herself.

Thanks for the quick reply. Fortunately no eggs are in the coop currently. She's just hanging out on the top Roost. We'll keep an eye on her the next couple of days and making sure she gets something to eat and drink.
 
Food and water only in the run?
How big is your coop and run (feet by feet)?
She may take while to settle in...how old are they?
Can you bring her down into the run with the food ans water?

The coop is 4x4 and the run is 4x10. They are all under a year. Food and water are only in the run. I took her out of the coop today, consoled her and placed her in the run (to hopefully eat and drink)...it took her less than a minute to get back up in the coop and on the roost.
 
Kinda tight space for 6 birds.
Maybe try locking her out of the coop, force her to stay in the run and observe their behavior.
She may be low on the pecking order....tight space can make that worse, so shes hiding in the coop.

My apologies. I just thought I'd throw a picture up, I understand better with pictures for certain things.
 
4 of the girls are now laying regularly. My shy hen finally came out of the coop and is eating and drinking. I'm waiting for her to start laying. My red star is almost mature enough to start laying. We let them free range during the day and at dusk, they put themselves to bed. Love my girls!
