Our of 8 birds, it was appear that at least half of them are roos.

Ha! Where did you get them from?

Six came from Fenton Feed Mill and we're all sexed as pullets. The other two came from a local farm, Duda Lang, and they were straight run but I'm thinking one of those is a lady.

Oh no! That's a huge fear of mine!! My 10 were sexed at the hatchery as females. I'm PRAYING that's what they are! It's heartbreaking to love and raise them then have to Rehome them. I've had to do this myself a few times over the past few years and its no fun! HOPEFULLY you will get more females than you think you have!

Let's hope! I'm not too attached to my Salmons though. They're ******** & I believe they're both roos. I haven't been able to hold them for more than a minute or two because they freak out anytime I come near them.

Uh oh! I think of the nine standards that came as sexed pullets we only ended up with one rooster this year and out of the bantys I think we have four pullets and a cockerel! How often does that happen I chose from straight run and ended up with FOUR girls! My luck is usually the majority of them are males but then again I am not usually allowed to take my time and sex each individual bird that I am purchasing due to the employees needing to help other customers. I am one of those who really has to convince myself on getting a certain one! If it has pasty rear I have to decide whether or not it is in overall good enough condition to be worth my time, being that I have a job away from the house and don't have 24/7 to keep a close eye on them. I have saved birds from Pasty Butt before but I like to keep a close eye on them just in case because it can be risky especially when they already have it at the store, it is hard saying how long it has been caked on for! Thankfully this time nobody was around in the chick department so I just took the chicks out one by one and gave them an overall exam and gave it my best on wing sexing them (the bantys that is.. I figured with buying the pullets I would get all girls or pretty much all girls so I wasn't too worried about the presexed birds) of the bantys that I sexed and brought home I knew either they were all going to be pullets or they were all cockerels judging by the wings of the ones that I got! Thankfully almost all of mine are females this time!

This is my fear. I tried vent sexing my babies this weekend... Let's just say that even with videos and tutorials I have no idea what I'm doing. But I can make a baby chick poop!

Too funny! I looked at these sexing charts and oh my goodness! There was waaaay to many varations! It was like, a male can look like this, or this, or this, or this,, or this......the same with the female! I was like oh my goodness! It's not just like either they have this or this, it's more like a male can have this and that and this ...super complicated. At least I thought it was.have you ever seen those charts? You can get them online but to me they were complicated.

I've seen the various charts but I also agree that they're confusing. It various from breed to breed and if the chickens are hatchery quality as opposed to breeder quality, the tell-tail colors can be off.

I figure I'll just have to wait until someone crows. But it's still so frustrating. My friend told me to stop looking it up on the interwebz. He compared it to searching google for "chest pains." Lol

If they've got black on their wings, they're roos. I "lucked" out and 4 out of 5 of my SFs are roos. :/ I won't mind having one SF roo because I think they're stunning...I just really didn't need quite so many to choose from!
