Unusual behavior

Thread Starter

I have 3 girls (Big Mama, Betty, Ethyl), Ethyl is caged right now because she is broody. Went out tonight to find Big Mama on top of Betty! She was mounted doggie style!! I have never seen this before. Does anyone know what this behavior means? Big Mama just went thru a long broody stage, 5 days. This was the longest I have had with my girls.

Hen only flocks can often have a dominant hen that takes on cock behaviors......

.....dominance mounting(what you likely saw), crowing, and maybe not laying.

Great article on VENTILATION, one of THE MOST IMPORTANT aspects of coop design.

Fantastic treatise to help decide how much SPACE your chickens need.

Chicken math is not just 'addition'...but also should include Division, Multiplication and especially Subtraction!!!
