I have a 5 week old chick that has been behaving oddly for almost a week now. His neck goes in all different directions and he walks backwards uncontrollably. I am pretty sure it's wry neck but have been told it's not very common in RIR. I have tried vitamin E, selenium, a baby multivitamin(similar to poly vi sol), spinach, sesame seeds, and dandelions. I have seen little to no improvement. He(I think it's a roo) can eat and drink on his own but has these episodes quite regularly especially when he's stressed. Is he going to pull out of it??

Wry neck can be a symptom of vitamin E deficiency, heredity, diseases, and head injuries. Not all chicks recover, but treatment can take days or weeks. Poultry NutriDrench or Poultry Cell vitamin tonics from feedstores, contain correct dosage of both vitamin E and selenium, at a dosage of 1 ml orally every day. It may help to hold the chick to feed it chick crumbles soaked in water from a bowl, to get enough nutrients in it, several times a day. Good luck with your chick.

Is that 1ml for very young chicks- say two days old?

Is there any way he could have injured his head? I had a silkie that has wry neck after a head injury, and it took her a couple weeks to get normal enough to go back to the coop. I just made sure she was eating and drinking, and gave her NutriDrench and Vitamin E. If she got scared or stressed, she would flip her head underneath herself, but after a couple more weeks, that went away too.
