So, I think we're coming to the end of our coop/run building project. The only thing left to do is add a roof to the run, which is currently only covered with bird netting until we can figure out HOW to put a roof on the run. (My husband is tech guy/radio engineer and is great at many things, but we are terrible builders, lol!) The coop was built by a local company, so we had no hand in that part. We constructed the run out of 2x4s and 1/2 inch hardwire cloth and added a hardwire cloth apron around the entire run. What else needs to be done? I want it to be as predator proof as possible.

Another note - this new coop has windows with regular screens. Would reinforcing the screens with HWC be a good idea, or is that not normally an issue? Seems like a lot of coops have standard windows with screens in them...

Put hardware cloth in the Windows. Raccoons will one day rule the world. They are smart and relentless.

Hah! Those darn raccoons. When we lost our cat and set out traps, we caught two in the neighborhood, so I know they're running rampant at night.

Your coop & run look amazing. Not sure what predators you'd have in Florida, but predator proofing would be the next big focus; you're on the right track.

The hardware cloth skirting on the run...good job.

And screening the Windows is another great suggestion.

Have you been to the Florida Thread? Lots of regional suggestions to be found there....
