Ducklings + Goslings

We were gifted two baby mallards just last night. They're about a week younger so there's quite the size difference now. There was only a little bit of roughhousing when they were introduced. Our gosling was the youngest by a few days but she's now the biggest for sure.

EDIT TO ADD: we lost the little gosling pictured above. It had a crooked beak so I'd like to assume it was bad genes. The one we have now is happy and healthy. Our goose hatched 2 of 6 eggs for us
Well cool glad they all have made peace and become friends.
Very sorry for your loss too.

These are the best I can do. The top photo is the gosling in the incubator, bottom photo is gosling in center of ducklings this morning. There was a red light on them, I could not move it or they would be upset and scatter, and I did not know how to remove the light glare and red color from the photo, so converted to B&W.

Beautiful little babes! Is the gosling from your emdens?

Yes, she is. I have more eggs hatching on or about April 13th and on May 1st. They also have a communal nest outside, but unfortunately we may need to move it, it is by the foundation of the house, and we want to keep them all in a field just a little bit away. We made up nests in various doghouses and large wooden boxes, with limited success. We have three self-selected "families", one pair of Embden from last year, one pair of Toulouse and one quad of an Embden gander and three Toulouse geese. Almost of the Embden eggs are fertile, almost of the Toulouse eggs are not fertile. The Embden gander in the quad is from last years hatch and he seems pretty incompetent at reproduction. Typical young man, full of enthusiasm, lacking in knowledge. I am not sure how old the Toulouse are, I bought them from another farm last fall.

Oh cool. I wish you luck with yours hatchings. We've got a few eggs set to hatch around April 15th. Fingers crossed!

We're still not sure what the larger duckling is. I'm on the fence now between a Blue Swedish or an Ancona. Any opinions?
