Getting a new flock of chickens is one of the most exciting things ive experienced. I learn something new everyday!!

In this I have my own questions im setting out to find!
One of them being, what is the common usual numbers of roosters to be kept with what number of hens?

A general rule of thumb for large scale fertile egg production is 1 rooster to 10 hens. It all depends upon the rooster and his mannerisms. Some roosters can overmate 20 hens, and some can be kept in pair or trio breeding pens without excessive wear and tear on the hens. Generally heavy, clumsy roosters cause more problems such as feather loss and damage to the sides and backs of hens.
