Hello, I have 6 eggs in my incubator. One hatched, two have pipped and the other three I'm still waiting on. I candled them all the days I was supposed to and one of my EEs looked like it had two embryos in it. (I'm not positive) Now both of the EEs have pipped, but the one I wasn't sure on has pipped in the middle of the egg. As you can see here.

I'm not positive again, but I thought I heard faintly two peeps coming from this egg. Again I could be wrong about this, but it has pipped in the wrong spot and I'm very unsure on what to do, if it is twins I have done my research and I know how to assist, but when do I know to assist? I have hatched lots of eggs before but I really need help with this one. Any advice or help will be GREATLY appreciated. Thank you.

Ok, I just listened again and it sounded as if there two peeps coming from the egg, one sounded more stronger and the other sounded weaker. What should I do anyone?

I would candle that egg and see if you can spot an internal pip in the air cell. If there is an internal pip in the air cell and the external pip in the middle, that will verify that you do have a twin situation. I don't normally recommend putting artificial pips in eggs, but if it is indeed a twin thing, I would mark where the internal pip is and make a safety hole. They will still need plenty of time for the vascular system to shut down, but I would keep a very close eye on the middle pipper and if it seems to be weakening, I would expand the pip hole, at least by chipping away at the shell and moisten the membrane with neosporin/bacitracin or petrolium jelly and as soon as the veining starts to receed, I would start an assist little by little.

Now if it turns out there is one chick, I'd give it the normal 24 hours before interfering.

Thanks Amy, will do. If I find it is one chick and it hasn't internally pipped what should I do?

If it is only one chick, then it's already pipped externally, right?  The one that pipped in the middle is the one that you are questioning?

Yes to both questions. I'm wondering if it's one chick why did it pip so far away form where it's supposed too?

Could just be malepositioned. My very first assist was a maleposition #5 that pipped right in the middle and had her foot up over her head. Also when the air cell draws down, sometimes they draw down as far as halfway down the egg, so there's always a slight possibility that a middle pipper could technically be in the air cell still. The only way you really know is candling.

Really? Interesting, thanks I will have to check this. I'll be back with news in a bit. :)

Okay. I'm really starting to need help now, I went to go candle the egg and I found two others have pipped, one being my only coco maroon, but the coco maroon has pipped on the opposite side of the egg! I'm so freaking out right now! I have not had this happen ever before in any of my hatches. Yikes. I'm also afraid to open the incubator now because the chicks need the humidity, and every egg has pipped but one. I'm so lost! :barnie

I forgot to mention I have another egg that started zipping process, but has made no progress, and this is what it looks like. Any thoughts? :/
