I'm new to chickens, and I have a Rhode Island Red that just stands around sleeping when in the cage with the rest of the chicks, he kind of sways back and forth. We've been taking him out the last couple of days to be sure he's eating and drinking enough and he seems to be. He had pasty but and we cleaned it up and he's been pooping fine. I don't see any of the other chicks picking on him, and I'm just worried. We've had them for about a week now, and the rest of them are growing like weeds but he doesn't seem to be. Also I haven't really seen him lay down so just wondering if that's normal?

Im not exactly sure if anything is wrong with your little guy. Is he a bantam breed? This could be why he's smaller. I'm just not sure about the swaying though. He might just be OK, just keep an eye on him.

I'm not sure if he is, when we bought him it just said Rhode Island Red! The other two RIR we bought are a lot bigger than he is! Hopefully I'm just worrying too much! I surely will though, thank you very much! :)

No problem. Hell get better, or he'll start acting different pretty soon!

Keep on giving him some extra TLC, and watching for pasty butt. Feed him some raw egg mixed with plain yogurt and a little chick crumbles into a mash. Thin with water with needed. Vitamins and electrolytes, such as SaveAChick in the water should help. Keep it warm.

I've already become super attached to them so it won't be hard to continue the tlc

And I will give the mash a try, anything to make him feel better! I actually just bought some SaveAChick today, the electrolytes and probiotics so hopefully that'll help! thank you so much for the advice!!
