really? They told me a mallard at tractor supply? Thats kind of frustrating cause I told them we wanted a mallard and they grabbed that one specifically?The one you think is a mallard is a Rouen
The best way to tell is through development, seeing as the "mallard" is as big as the other ducklings(and if it is the same age) it is most likely a rouen. This is a prime example of how the eye stripe test is not 100% accurate. There still is a chance that it could be a mallard and is just maturing very quickly, but just watch it and if it is still just as big as the other ducks by 5 weeks it is most likely a rouen.
No it doesn't work like that,gender has very little to do with the rate of growth. Sorry, but there is a chance that it could still be a mallard that is just maturing a lot more quickly than usual. As I said before by 5-6weeks if it is still just as big as the others it is probably a Rouen
