I can't remember who here has cochins, but ran across this diagram recently on sexing them. From what I remember, it seems pretty accurate.

@Puddin Fluff

Cool! I am just getting ready to go tuck chickens in for the night. I might have to pull out the babies and take a close look! Of course, these guys are not likely to be 100 Percent cochin so not sure it will apply but I can give it a go. I am wondering if it works with LF also?

ARGG! BYC ate my post.

This is cool. I am just getting ready to tuck chickens in for the night so I may just pull out the littles and take a peek.

Of course, I don't think my guys are 100 percent cochin so might not apply but will be interesting to see.

Wondering if it applies to the LF also?

Awww :love

I see both posts :D

I'm not sure if it applies to LF or not, but I would assume so. :idunno

Well, pulled 3 chicks out for a look and they all looked more like day 10 female wings than day 5 anything and they are right about 5 days so I am thinking whatever their mix (possibly phoenix) it has negated the slow feathering gene that Cochins tend to have.

I know the full cochins that I have took forever to feather in.

I have to say that they are usually pretty easy to tell by 3 weeks for me if they were male. At least the line I have. Their combs really come in soon.

I had one boy that I hatched from a different source a few years ago who was born with a comb. I saw him as he came out of the shell and said that one is a boy and he was a fiesty little turd.

 Interesting though.

I think since I hatched a few more this year, they will be easier for me to tell early also. I remember posting pics of my frizzle Armand, only a few days old, and our red-bearded skirt-wearing friend said "that one needs a cigar" or something to that effect. I couldn't believe he was right! :p

Hey Dan..... This is my 2 year old Giant Sequoia.... It was 3 inches when i planted it 2 years ago.

Lovely tree...

i should try to find a couple

X200000000

i want to move somewhere warm and sunny

Keep your eye on Craigslist... a lot of people get rid of older ones fairly cheap... we get a lot at the auction... when bids stay low, we pifk them up cheap...

Leave it to Friday to come up with a possible simple solution :D
Nope! Nothing for the past 3-4 weeks. They had dwindled down to about 2 laying, but even those stopped. Around the time of their molt, plus I did a major coop cleanout and used different straw. I don't think they liked it :/ oh, and the swap out of the older boys to the younger boys not long before that too! Good break for the girls though.

Even the comets slacked off this winter, just a couple of them are still laying.
:fl hopefully you could use a machine to drag if you got one. Hail, I'd cut it up there if necessary :D
Crazy at work for me too, I was glad it was kinda slow here

Dang... well you might get a PM, Shade had someone asking him about finding Lav Orp eggs, lol...

Yay!!! :celebrate :love

:weee are they sexable right away?

Nah, but they're fairly quick to tell once they start feathering out...

no they aren't. 4 have fuzzy legs and 4 don't so at least half are worth growing out though

Nice... you aren't getting longer legs anymore, right?

Finally built a fire here
