Hello, I got my first coop yesterday and we are excited to get started. We are located in central Georgia and are a large family with 4 children ranging from teenage to toddler, they cant wait to see what is next. We have been looking at different breeds of layers with docile temperament. Not really sure which way to go from there.

I have had australorps over the years, they are very friendly and are great layers.

Right know we have a buff Orpington. She is the friendliest chicken I have ever had.

our local hatchery has black star, red star, and cinnamon queens but I'm leaning more to the rhode island rock

RIR's can be aggressive, towards other chickens. Black australorps are great layers and docile birds. White leghorns are very good layers but very skittish.

Hi and welcome to BYC - you have some great advice already so I'll just say hello!

All the best

Thank you guys for the info you have offered, we are still looking into some different breeds but I'm hoping we will narrow it down by the end of the week and get our flock started.
