Breeding question

Not new to geese, but new to breeding them. Our first attempt at breeding a pair of buff geese failed due to the minor detail of them both being ganders ... Oops.
Starting fresh with sexed pairs from metzers. We have two pair of buffs and two pair of pilgrims. Still fuzzy babies, but we are planning ahead for next winter and spring. Obviously we'll need to separate them into their breeding groups, but how soon does that need to happen? We don't want them to bond with the wrong breed and then refuse to mate with their own breed. Or do they not bond until mating?
Any insight would be appreciated, and rewarded with pics of the fuzzy things!
Thanks,
Amy

400

Eight geese. What was I thinking???

8 is a good number....i have 9 toulouse from Metzer's that should arrive tomorrow...3 boys and 6 girls...but pnly keeping 4 girls and two boys...last trio are going to my uncle. i would say to have them separated before spring and then you could let them all out together again by july as they should be done laying

but am not sure exactly when you should separate them for the bonding with the right breed thing...just know you should separate before spring(like separate in jan or feb) if you want pure babies
