Hi. I am new here. I have 5 rhode island red hens that are about 17 days old. Tonight is the first nite in their coop, and i just checked on them and they seem fine. Just wondering when they will start to use the roost?
Btw, i am in central Texas and the weather is nice.
I have 11 guineas (8 hens/3 roo's), 5 rir hens, 5 black australorps (2 roo/3 hens), 3 cochin bantams(1 roo/2 hens), 2 easter eggers (both roos), 1 coo coo maran hen, 6 white leghorn hens, 5 sexlink hens, 4 ameraucana's (2 hens & 2 chicks), 2 silver laced wyandotte chicks & 2 buff orpington chicks.

Welcome to BYC.

There is really no set time when they will start to roost.

They will generally "play" on the roosts during the day, put will pile or huddle at night.

Give them time and be patient, they are still a bit young. One day they will all decide to just up and roost.
