We got them last year and think were doing ok but have a few questions, and have lots to learn, eg i didnt know you could put D E into their feed, how does it help the chickens?

Hi and welcome to BYC

Some people think DE will help with worm problems. It is not effective as a dewormer if they already have worms, however.

Thank you, mine don't at the moment so I might try adding a little to their feed as long as It doesn't hurt them then why not.

Hi and welcome to BYC - glad that you have joined us.

You'll find lots of info in the Learning Centre (even if you have lots of experience)
https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center, and if you have a specific topic in mind, just type it in the search box - there's a wealth of information on past and present threads.

You may wish to consider joining your state thread as it will put you in touch with other BYC members in your area - https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/270925/find-your-states-thread

All the best

We mix it with ash for the girls to dust bath in also used it to treat the coop for the dreaded red mites. Don't know if it was the DE or the coop shield but one of them did the trick. What would yo u recommend in its place?
