Question about chick behavior

Thread Starter
I have six chicks that are 6-7 weeks old. Now that the weather is nicer, I've been bringing them outside as their coop is almost ready for them full time. However, when I bring them outside, I notice they lay on their sides and stretch one leg and one wing out. Is that normal behavior for chickens when they're outside? I've never seen a chicken do that before.

Normal behavior - they are sun bathing.

Friends are the family you make for yourself.
There are no coincidences- only providences.

Chicks instinctively take full advantage of natural sunlight, stretch out, and expose maximum feather surface area to ultra-violet radiation in order to absorb vitamin D, just as we humans do through our skin.

Besides, it feels great!

I do this even in the kitchen for them!! The sun was shining and warm thru the window and door the other day. I moved their brooder and lamp into the sun and THEY LOVED IT. They were never so calm before
