I've started a couple of different threads on quail now, and I've managed to gather together some very useful info, so thanks to everyone for helping 
But I still have more questions lol
I just googled the area I am moving to in August, and it is currently 12°C, humidity is 95% and the wind speed is 18mph (the time is currently 20:06)... And this is in May.. In the winter it can drop as low -12°C during the night, and the wind and rain can get really, really bad.
If my Japanese coturnix quail are outside in their run, will they be okay? We're going to build a coop about an inch off the ground, tucked in the corner between two 7ft stone walls (part of an old ruin), insulate it and make sure it's anchored to the ground. I know quail can survive sub zero temperatures, but can they survive -12°C? I could always tie a tarp over the mesh when it rains, but the wind might rip it off. There is a large barn/shed thing next to the ruin, which we're converting to a workshop, so I could put them in there during winter, or during storms/very bad weather.

The water won't be a problem, We're going to keep it insulated and if the temps do drop that low I'll check it a couple times a day.
