Run Cover

So, I have a fenced in Run of 5' x 16' and it is covered with Chicken wire to deter hawks and other flying predators. that part is pretty well predator proofed.  I have an extension on this run of the same dimensions. I used 4' chicken wire for the fencing part, but I do not yet have this portion covered, and they are yet to be introduced to the extension because of this.  I was wondering what I could use for the cover, to keep out the event of climbing predators getting in, such as raccoons and foxes?  I could buy more chicken wire and cover with that, but I am not sure that is predator safe, and it would sag, unless I put some sort of support up for it.  I thought about using a tarp, but I am sure coons and fox could tear right through that.

All this said, the chickens WILL be locked in at night.  I am just trying to get an idea of what to use, and remain cost effective.

Chicken wire keeps chickens in but it really doesn't keep anything out. It might deter flying predators, but if they give it a try, they could rip right through it. It certainly won't keep raccoons, rats or other gnawing predators out. However, if the chickens are put in the coop at night, you really only need to worry about daytime predators out in the run. A tarp would give them some shade and conceal them from eyes from above.
