I am planning to put a duck house there. If I only lock the ducks up at night will predators come in the day? (I live in the los angeles valley so maybe someone knows about the predators around there :0) Also I am going to remove the rocks. I have a dog and that basically scares away the cats.

If the rocks are not sharp they may work to allow you to hose it out to clean it. Adding a layer of smaller pebbles on top might make it easier on the duck's feet. We have thought about using gravel and small pebbles in our Silkie coop but for now we water and rake the dirt.

I think it would be easy to enclose this space with a slanted roof to keep ducks safe. You don't want the ducks to get trapped in by a predator.
