Sick Chick

Very lethargic not wanting to eat or drink, other chicks were pecking at its bottom to the point it was bleeding. I have separated from others. Stool was stuck to bottom and I cleaned area. The Cal Ranch store where I bought said to use iodine on site and then place antibiotic ointment. Keep clean and dry, force chick to drink by placing beak in water every couple of hours. Is there anything else I should do?

Welcome to BYC. Pasty butt and a weak chick can be a sign of shipping stress and dehydration. The vent may paste up again, so check it once a day, and keep it clean without chilling the chick. Give it water with SaveAChick as often as you cantoday and tonight. Check your brooder temperature with a thermometer, to make sure that it is not to warm. The iodine can help to diguise the wound from pecking. BluKote is another product used for that.

thanks for reply, however I lost her this evening. Guess she was too sick and being new I didn't catch it soon enough.

Thank you.I hate when babies die. Also is it possible for a baby bantam to have seizures?
