I have 4 Australorp's that were 9 weeks old on Saturday. Three of them look about the same and I am thinking hen's. I have one that's comb is more red and it has brown feathers in the neck. Anyone care to give a guess on what these guys are???

#1 Possible Roo

Compare--one with brown feathers is in the back

The other 3...

Oh yeah! I really hope they are all pullets. They were in a brooder with other breeds of chickens so I guess it possible she gave me one that wasn't an australorp. Thanks.

The only one that stands out as to potential cockerel is in this photo. Group of three- furthest to the right has a comb that looks to have color. If that is the black sex link then never mind. Those are 100% by color sexed. And photos can be hard to judge. No other photo had anything remotely looking cockerel so is likely my bad eyes and picture.

The gig with single comb birds is any red in the comb at this age is a cockerel. Pullets wont get red until much older and nearing point of lay.

So I sent the picture of the brown feather chick to Angie (she is who I got the chicks from) and she said it looks like a got a marans mixed in with my australorpe. So now I have a black cooper marans.
