Broody hen

Hi I have 2 light Sussex hens. They are now 12 months old. For the last couple days one has gone broody. She stays in her nest box sitting on her egg. I take the eggs off her and put her out in the garden but she goes back in anyway. I'm not sure if I should leave her be. How long will she carry on this behaviour? The eggs are not fertile. Thanks

The hen does not know the eggs are infertile.  If allowed she will brood for many weeks. You can get her fertile eggs to hatch or break her of broodiness by keeping her in a plain screen/bare cage. A while in the cage will usually break/stop the behavior.
